Dr.
Tossell is a staff clinician in the Child
Psychiatry Branch of the Intramural Research
Program. She is a graduate of Radcliffe College and the George Washington University
School of Medicine. She did her adult psychiatry residency at George Washington University, and her
child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Children's National Medical Center. She is board certified
in child, adolescent and adult psychiatry..
Dr. Tossell joined NIH in January 2002. Previously, she was in solo private practice in
Bethesda, MD, where her practice encompassed psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, with a
special interest in language-delayed children and adolescents. As Associate Clinical Professor of
Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the George Washington University School of Medicine, she was actively
involved in the teaching program of the Department of Psychiatry at Children's National Medical Center. |

Dr. Tossell is primarily intested in the interplay between language disorders and psychiatric disorders.
Additionally, she is responsible for the clinical care of the child subjects enrolled in the Child Psychiatry
Branch's inpatient research protocols. These protocols focus on the treatment of childhood-onset
schizophrenia with atypical antipsychotic medications. She is also involved in the Branch's ongoing
outpatient studies of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Klinefelter's Syndrome. |
