Stefano Marenco, M.D.
Dr. Marenco Photo   Dr. Marenco received his MD at the University of Genova, Italy. He then completed residency training in Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Genova and in Psychiatry at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Further training consisted in research fellowships at the NIMH, Clinical Brain Disorders Branch (1989-1991 and 1998-2004, under the mentorship of Daniel R. Weinberger, MD) and at Johns Hopkins University (1993-1994: with Dean F. Wong, MD, PhD). He is board certified in Psychiatry. He has been a Staff Clinician in the Genes, Cognition and Psychosis Program since 2004.

Research Interests
Dr. Marenco’s current interests and expertise center on the study of how genetic variation that predisposes to schizophrenia, impacts on MRI phenotypes, particularly proton spectroscopy and diffusion tensor imaging. He has expertise also in the field of neurodevelopmental risk factors for schizophrenia, the glutamate hypothesis of schizophrenia, classical conditioning, and positron emission tomography. Moreover, he has contributed to describing the phenotype of individuals with Williams syndrome with diffusion tensor imaging, in collaboration with Karen Berman, MD.
