Laura A. Thomas , Ph.D.

      Laura A. Thomas Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Section on Bipolar Spectrum Disorders in the Emotion and Development Branch of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program, National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Thomas received her B.A. in Psychology from Vassar College in 2000 and her Ph.D. in Psychology & Neuroscience from Duke University in 2007. Her dissertation research, under mentor Dr. Kevin LaBar, focused on the modulation of implicit learning and memory by emotion, using behavioral, psychophysiological, and functional neuroimaging techniques. Dr. Thomas’ dissertation research was funded by a predoctoral NRSA. Additionally, during her graduate career she researched emotional face processing in typical and clinical child and adolescent populations with Dr. Michale De Bellis. Now at the NIMH, Dr. Thomas’ current research focuses on the neural underpinnings of emotional reactivity in youths with bipolar disorder.
