Shmuel Lissek, Ph.D.
Shmuel Lissek, Ph.D. is the Richard J. Wyatt Memorial Fellow in the Affective Psychophysiology Unit of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at the NIMH. Dr. Lissek completed his B.A. in sociology at Columbia University and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at St. John’s University. Dr. Lissek joined the NIMH in 2002 where he has since conducted research on the psychobiology of fear and anxiety with special emphasis on classical conditioning correlates of clinical anxiety. Dr. Lissek’s work has recently centered on generalization of conditioned fear as a pathogenic marker of such anxiety disorders as PTSD and panic disorder. Additionally, he is currently applying fMRI techniques to track the conditioning-dependent modifications to neural representations of conditioned stimuli that may subserve generalization of conditioned fear. Dr. Lissek has received several awards for his contributions to the field of affective neuroscience from such organizations as the NIMH, ACNP, ADAA, and SOBP, and he was recently awarded a 5-year, NIH Pathway to Independence Grant (K99-R00) to study the psychophysiology, neurobiology, and pharmacology of conditioned fear-generalization in health and disorder. |
