| Dr. Shizhe Steve Li, Ph.D.
Dr. Shizhe Steve Li is a staff scientist in the Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Core of the Molecular
Imaging Branch (MIB).
Dr. Li received his BS in Physics from Tsinghua University in 1982 and his PhD in Physics from The City
University of New York in 1992. He received his postdoctoral training at Hershey Medical Center of Penn
State University and later became a research associate there. He then joined GE Medical Systems in 1997
as an RF engineer and became an RF project engineer. In 2000, he joined IGC-Medical Advances Inc. as
the manager of the Applied Science Laboratory with an adjunct appointment of Assistant Professor at
the Medical College of Wisconsin. At the end of 2002, he became a staff scientist in NIMH.
Dr. Li’s research area has been focused on electromagnetic field behavior in magnetic resonance imaging
and technique development of RF coils and gradient coils. As a staff scientist of the MRS Core, he is
developing in vivo MRS techniques for animal and human brain MRS studies in brain energy
metabolism, glutanatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission.
